Passport and transit notes
- Passport validity
- Australia requires the right visa and a valid passport or other travel document before travel. Airlines and transit countries may apply additional passport-validity checks.
- Validity source (opens in a new tab) Validity guide
- Transit
- airside transit: required; landside transit: required; Ukraine is not on Australia's Transit Without a Visa country list for ordinary passports. A Transit visa (subclass 771) is therefore required even for an airside transit of up to 72 hours; clearing immigration requires a visa that permits entry.

What you need
- Ukrainian passport or accepted Ukrainian travel document
- Completed online visa application through ImmiAccount
- Evidence of funds, itinerary, accommodation and ties outside Australia
- Health, character and biometrics documents if requested
- For Ukrainians with relatives in Australia, details of the Australian relative may be provided in the Tourist stream
Why this verdict
Ukrainian ordinary-passport holders are not eligible for visa-free entry to Australia. For ordinary tourism or family visits, the usual route is a Visitor visa (subclass 600) Tourist stream applied for online before travel. Australia's Ukraine support page separately notes that Ukrainian nationals with relatives in Australia can apply under the Tourist stream and provide details of the Australian relative, rather than using the Sponsored Family stream. A granted visa may allow a stay up to 12 months, but the exact period and entries are set in the visa grant letter.
