What this means: An ETA is an electronic travel authorisation you apply for online before you fly — it is not a visa, but you cannot board without it.
Confidence: Medium Likely current — confirm details with the official source.
This answer is for ordinary South Korean passport holders travelling as citizens of that passport. Residence permits, long-stay visas or living in another country can change which embassy or rule applies.

Why this verdict
South Korean ordinary-passport visitors are not included in Kenya's current nationality exemptions and therefore need an approved eTA before travel. An eTA is permission to travel rather than final admission: the immigration officer decides admissibility and the permitted stay at entry. This row covers an ordinary short visit only; the live eTA application and border decision remain controlling.
Conditional rules
- Traveller holds Kenyan permanent residence, a valid work permit or pass, or a passport endorsed with a valid Kenya re-entry authority Conditional
The current official exemption list says these travellers do not need an eTA. Their residence, permit, pass or re-entry authority controls the entry conditions.
- Passenger arrives and leaves on the same aircraft, or transfers to another aircraft without leaving the precincts of a Kenyan airport Visa-free
The 2025 exemption list expressly removes the eTA requirement for this airside transit pattern. Crossing immigration or leaving the airport precincts uses the normal entry rule.
- Traveller is using a diplomatic, official, service or another non-ordinary document, or is travelling on official duty Conditional
Kenya publishes document- and duty-specific exemptions. Confirm the exact document and purpose in the official eTA process.
- Trip is for work, residence, study or another purpose requiring a Kenyan permit or pass Visa required
An eTA is not a work, residence or study permission. Use the relevant Directorate of Immigration permit or pass route.
- Required passport validity, blank page, eTA approval, itinerary, accommodation or purpose-specific evidence is missing Conditional
The official eTA instructions publish these application conditions, and the immigration officer retains final admission authority.
