Passport validity

passport valid for at least 3 months after departure; Schengen border rules generally require the passport to be valid at least 3 months after the intended departure from the Schengen area and issued within the previous 10 years.

Transit

airside transit: not required; landside transit: required; Germany lifted its airport-transit visa requirement for Indian nationals from 3 June 2026 when they remain in the international transit area on the way to another country. Entering Germany, changing to a Schengen domestic segment, collecting bags landside or otherwise crossing border control still requires meeting the normal Schengen visa rule.

What you need

• Indian passport valid at least 3 months beyond planned departure from the Schengen area and issued within the last 10 years
• completed Schengen visa application
• travel medical insurance valid for the Schengen area
• proof of funds, accommodation and trip purpose
• return or onward ticket

Why this verdict

Indian citizens need a Schengen visa to visit Germany for ordinary tourism or family visits. The short-stay visa route covers visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area as a whole, not 90 days per country. Germany also lifted the separate German airport-transit visa requirement for Indian nationals from 3 June 2026, but that does not allow entry into Germany or the wider Schengen area.
